DNA Extraction from Fruit allows students to take an inquiry-based approach to the laboratory, learning how to design and analyze an experiment. Students will learn about variables and controls, using those concepts as they extract DNA that they can see from fruit.
Key Topics:
- Fundamentals of Scientific Inquiry and Experimental Design
- DNA
- DNA Extraction from Tissues and Cells
This field trip is categorized as an Introductory field trip, and is appropriate for students as young as 6th or 7th grade. It can be adapted in depth of content to be appropriate for science learners at a more advanced level.
Length of Field Trip: 0.5 to 1 hour
Cost of Field Trip: DNA Extraction from Fruit alone can be added-on to any other lab for $48 for up to 16 students, $3 for every additional student. 0.5 – 1 hour experience but cannot be booked alone.
