Camp Biotech I & II ARE fully enrolled.

These one-week summer courses for young scientists are designed for high school students who are really interested in molecular biology/biotechnology.  They are conducted through the BTC Institute on the Promega campus. Aidan Holmes (Associate Education Director, BTC Institute) and Rebecca McDermid, M.A. (Biotechnology Instructor and Associate Program Manager, BTC Institute) serve as the primary instructors.

FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT AIDAN HOLMES — THANK YOU!

FULL - CAMP BIOTECH I: THE WONDERS OF DNA

July 8-12, 2024; 9am - 3pm

Cost: $380 (included all materials; lunch and snacks; scholarships are available)

This one-week experience at the BTC Institute is for students entering 9th or 10th grade in fall semester 2024, or higher grade level students with limited biology knowledge, who are interested learning more about DNA and genetic engineering. Students will build a DNA model, learn how to extract DNA from cells, transfer DNA into cells by heat shock transformation, amplify DNA to detect small quantities by PCR, and use restriction enzymes to identify DNA sequences. No prior biology or DNA knowledge is necessary.

FULL - CAMP BIOTECH II: THE WONDERS OF PROTEIN

July 15-19, 2024; 9am - 3pm

Cost: $380 (included all materials; lunch and snacks; scholarships are available)

Ready for more genetic engineering? We will be using genetic engineering to create bacteria with new traits, use computers to analyze DNA sequences, design protein expression experiments and learn how to extract proteins from cells. Of course, it wouldn’t be Camp Biotech without plenty of guest speakers. We are looking forward to another great summer in 2024 and hope you can join us!

This one-week experience at the BTC Institute will be for students entering 9th - 12th grade in fall semester 2024 who have taken 1 year of high school biology OR Camp Biotech I and are interested learning more about genetic engineering and proteins.
