INSTRUCTOR: Amy Prevost, Ph.D., Education Director

SCHEDULE: Training will consist of a half-day of training combining lecture with lab work and discussion, from 9:00am – 12:30pm. Please see our recommendations for preparation.

COURSE FEE: $125

CONTENT: This practical course is for non-scientists who are interested in gaining an understanding of how molecular biology techniques combined with statistical analyses allow forensic scientists to determine individual identity using short tandem repeats (STRs). In the laboratory, we will perform DNA isolation and PCR amplification of a gene of interest to give students hands on experience obtaining a DNA template and amplification results. Specific objectives may vary depending on the individual or group’s interests. These sessions may also be structured to be at an intermediate or advanced level.
